The growing popularity of yoga – Part 4

Yoga, by admin.

The Yoga schools are giving a western version of yoga It is great for

flexibility, relaxation, and body control. Yoga also develops alertness, calms the nerves, and releases inner tensions. I have found that yoga gives me more

energy for the day and helps me to focus. Yoga appeals to the young too, because

the children like the animal names of the poses and sometimes it can be fun especially when you can’t do the postures well. A good yoga instructor will

be flexible in her/his teaching allowing persons to stretch according to their

limits of endurance. This allows yoga to be comfortable for the adaptee. It can

be done in the convenience of your home. I think the reason for its popularity is because the baby-boomers of the 1960’s was exposed to Eastern religions in the

form of TM and now that they are older, they remember these benefits of yoga.

There are many books on Yoga-Iyenagar is one of the most popular. I actually

started yoga when I was 13 with Richard Hittelman’s Book on Yoga. I also read a book on Christian Yoga that was quite interesting. Yoga also uses breathing, mental and meditational technique for achieving calm and peace in this stress ridden society of ours, which could be another reason for its popularity.

Namaste.
